Kate's Birthday Party, Kate Nash and Gay Animals

This week on Diff'rent Strokes... we've picked a party playlist just for Kate!

ONLINE:

Talk about the meme that rocked our long weekend! Who wasn't invited to "Kate's Birthday Party"? Tonight Dave gives you the details on the hoax Facebook event that went viral last week with over 180,000 people invited - and the mastermind behind it, Australian humourist and prankster, David Thorne of the 27b/6 fame.

MUSIC:

Kate Nash is back with her second studio album, My Best Friend Is You. Lazily described as the indie pop Lily Allen, Nash took the UK charts by storm three years ago with the hit single 'Foundations' and her #1 album, Made of Bricks. Jade will share her thoughts on the new album and Dave will have a thing or two to say about the "sophomore slump".

CULTURE:

An Adelaide restaurant was fined this week after it refused to serve a blind man with a "gay dog". Tonight we'll talk about gay animals and why the hell wouldn't you want one?

Happy Pants, Marina & The Diamonds and LinkedIn

This week on Diff'rent Strokes... (Jade and Dave got what chu need!)

CULTURE:

I pity that kid! Did Jade have a traumatic childhood in the 80s? Why is she bringing happy pants back into our periphery? We'll be talking about the horrors of these vividly coloured pants and how our taste in pants have evolved over the last two decades...

MUSIC:

Dave is convinced that Marina & The Diamonds is more Jade's taste than his own. But then again, we have made exceptions to the rule before. Hear Dave's review and album in the blend of The Family Jewels tonight.

ONLINE:

LinkedIn is said to be the white-collar professional's Facebook. Who would've thought social networking sites could actually help you get a job? Find out how tonight when Jade and Dave talk about LinkedIn

how do you guys keep coming up with stuff for the show eveyr wk?

Diff'rent Strokes content has subtly evolved over the years. Kinda like the Sugababes' sound.

We reinvented the show format over six months ago to become more "media" focused and that has made coming up with topics easier.

We've got staple segments like: online, TV, music, podcasts and now, flashback... and I guess we try to pick material that the cool camp and geeky kids these days can relate to. - Dave

Tamagotchi, Grindr & The White House Podcast

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

FLASHBACK:

Tamagotchis were all the rage in the 90s! Dave talks about this iconic Japanese hand-held toy, the Tamagotchi-mania and the perils of sneaking them to school.

We reckon the 90s gave us a faddish obsession with digital pets. I mean, didn't we all want an Aibo like Janet Jackson?

ONLINE:

We're all familiar with online dating but this week Jade attempts to manhunt on the go with the Grindr app. Forget relying on your instinctive gaydar, this app will not only show you gay, bi, curious men in the area but will let you chat with them...

PODCAST:

Shock horror! Dave enjoying a politics podcast?! Talk about a sign of the apocalypse if we ever saw one.

This week Dave talks about The White House Features podcast - and how it's sugar-coated politics for him (quite literally!)

How long have you guys been onair for and what's your FAVOURITE and LEAST favourite episode?

We've been on air for two and a half years now. In October we will celebrate 3 years of Diff'rent Strokes. My personal favourite episode is either of our music episodes. My least favourite is probably the one where I wore heels only due to the punishment my feet took that week. -Jade

Enid Blyton, Formspring.me & Modern Family

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

FLASHBACK:

Who grew up reading The Famous Five or The Magic Faraway Tree series? Jade takes a walk down memory lane tonight with Enid Blyton's books.

Blyton is one of Britain's best selling children book authors of all time, reportedly selling over 600 million books worldwide. Her place in pop culture remains undisputed...

ONLINE:

Question? Dave jumps on the Formspring bandwagon only to find he's too ready to offer answers to questions no one's asked!

Formspring.me basically allows its users to set up a profile where anyone on the interwebs can post them a question anonymously.

Ask Jade and Dave a question here.

TV:

Modern Family is a mockumentary comedy TV series that follows the lives of three American families - a "traditional" nuclear family, an interracial family and a gay family.

Jade will talk about the interesting dynamics between the characters on the show and its themes of bridging generational, cultural and social gaps.
